AbstractTeen Dating Violence (TDV) has become a pervasive problem for youth in the United States, with 10% to 25% of high school students engaging in physical and sexual dating violence, and with even a greater percentage of youth experiencing some form of psychological maltreatment (Kervin & Obinna, 2010, "Youth action strategies in the primary prevention of teen dating violence" ). The effects of TDV can lead an adolescent to be at a higher risk of suffering from emotional and health issues (Rankin, 2009, "Middle school adolescents views on dating violence: An exploratory study"). Therefore, TDV and its effects must be challenged on every societal level. The purpose of this study was to develop a participatory action research (PAR) youth group, who as researchers answered and addressed the questions: How is TDV being addressed in the rural community of a Mountain state, to meet the needs and bring awareness to its youth? What can School District A do to make sure the most effective interventions are being utilized to ensure preventative steps towards TDV are being taken? This study has provided the Mountain state, community action towards enhancing their awareness of TDV, and then suggested components of needed programs and interventions to provide hope for the future to those that are at risk or suffering. This study has taken a participatory action research approach where collaborative efforts were drawn upon within the School District A (in Mountain state community) to determine if the appropriate interventions and programs in place effectively address TDV in that rural community. Based on the collaboration and input of the three sample populations (students, teachers, and school administrators), the data of the study revealed that no specific TDV programs or interventions were employed within the School District A. In response to the data collected and analyzed, the PAR youth group developed specific answers to the primary research questions, which included providing School District A with preventative TDV curriculum elements, and a possible intervention program.
