AbstractAs teachers in Georgia utilize formative assessments to ensure successful performance on the state mandated Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT), it is essential that the data they receive from these assessments are accurate. This study examined the correlation between the computer-assisted instructional program, Classworks, and student performance on the CRCT. The research questions explored specific aspects of the Classworks program, including student mean scores on the reading and math module quizzes, the student universal screener scores in reading and math, student time spent on the Classworks program each week, along with how teachers implemented the program in their classroom to determine if there is a correlation between any of the variables. Conceptually this study was framed within Twining's computer practice framework. Data from 200 3rd grade CRCT test scores, Classworks data regarding student performance on quizzes, universal screeners, and time on task, along with survey data from teachers regarding how the program was implemented in their classroom, were collected. A multiple regression stepwise analysis was utilized to determine the correlation between the independent variables related to components of Classworks and student CRCT scores, while also determining which independent variables had the best predictive value. Results of this study revealed student quiz scores demonstrate the strongest correlation, followed by the combined use of the quiz scores and the Universal Screeners. The social impact of this study could provide more knowledge to administrators and teachers on how to utilize CAI programs and for how long. This knowledge could assist teachers utilizing CAI technology to provide a more effective learning experience for their students.
