AbstractThe purpose of this case study was to investigate what impact the child development associate (CDA) credential has on the performance of childcare providers in the 6 CDA competency areas. Each participant was interviewed using 9 open-ended questions regarding their experience. Over the past few years, a number of studies have examined the effects of varying levels of quality on children's behavior and development. These outcomes also coincide with the 6 competency areas of the CDA, which are to (a) establish and maintain a safe, healthy, learning environment; (b) advance physical and intellectual competence; (c) support social and emotional development, and provide positive guidance; (d) establish positive and productive relationships with families; (e) ensure a well-run, purposeful program responsive to participants' needs; and (f) maintain a commitment to professionalism. The specific objective of the study was to contribute new knowledge to the field of early childhood by examining the impact of the CDA credential and how it impacts provider job performance. The findings of this study indicate infinite options for future research involving child care providers' need for professional development.
