AbstractThe existing bond between human resources (HR) that team up in a business enterprise and the "real medium" information technology (IT) itself appears in the moment that the relationship is generated independently of the kind of enterprise and the relationship established between them. In today's competitive business world, companies who want to succeed have to be totally transformed for the level and tasks they have to work to create and reach competitive advantage. In fact, they must have specific functions in which IT plays a fundamental role to convert a regular HR department into a powerful and dynamic electronic HR and accomplish its role of strategic partner. This study investigated for the first time the level of influence of IT in HR when correlated to Ulrich's ("Human Resource Champions: The Next Agenda for Adding Value and Delivery Results," 1997) four-roles model. This undertaking examined the amalgamation of IT into the HR organization to generate excellent electronic HR business performance, specifically analyzing IT and its impact in HR's cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity. This examination was correlated to Ulrich's four-roles theory, in which companies detect strengths and weaknesses in each of the four quadrants of the four-roles model with respect to HR performance through IT support. The findings on the literature stated that the use of IT is an eminent tool to apply in order to obtain competitive advantage and that IT is a key part of that purpose. This study found that the use of IT influences HR and as such affects HR business performance. Additionally, it was found that HR has neither a significant degree of influence over company decisions nor external factors that affect a company's competitiveness. This study also includes recommendations for future research. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
