Abstract | Taking the AP Statistics course and exam does not appear to be related to greater interest in the statistical sciences. Despite this finding, with respect to deciding whether to take further statistics course work and majoring in statistics, students appear to feel prepared for, but not interested in, further study. There is certainly more research needed in order to make causal inferences about the issues presented in this analysis. However, it should serve as encouragement for both AP Statistics and college statistics instructors and the broader statistical community that the AP Statistics program seems to be successful in preparing students for further study and in increasing interest in statistics.
