AbstractWith the weakening economy, many nonprofit organizations have cut their budget and are investigating cost cutting expenditures to survive from cutting employees, to cutting services, to cutting business travel. Several industry challenges have resulted in reduced business activity. Increased demands have required practitioners to be innovative in meeting business needs. In response, some companies have adopted information technology solutions. This research is a characterization of the communication preferences for nonprofit organizations during a phenomenological study of a virtual world meeting. There has been a limited amount of formal research regarding the efficacy of virtual meetings over meetings in a real world setting and recommendations for future research in virtual worlds are offered in the conclusion.
