Abstract	The purpose of this grounded theory qualitative study was to identify teacher perceptions within the classroom of preschool violence and what, if any were the perceived associations between teacher perceptions and the problem of school violence up to and including incarceration in later years. The study included open interview questions for data collection and interviews with 10 veteran teachers. These interviews led to developing themes and contrasting results such as teacher feelings and relaying specific examples of violence within the classroom. Literature indicated violence as a problem as well as a correlation between preschool violence and later incarceration rates. Analysis is made on the perceived associations between violent behavior and teacher response. A working definition of violence in the preschool environment is developed. The preschool environment is an ignored opportunity for citizen growth and violence prevention. Future recommendations include a more detailed definition of violence as well as a longitudinal study to further explore the connections between early childhood and adult behavior.
