Abstract	The National Youth Administration (NYA) was established within the Works Progress Administration in 1935 to provide work training for unemployed youth and part-time employment for needy students. It was transferred to the Federal Security Agency in 1939, and subsequently to the War Manpower Commission in 1942. As war clouds began to hover over the horizon in 1939 and 1940, the NYA sought to develop vocational training programs based upon defense needs. This work was recognized by Congress, which provided specific funds under which State Boards for Vocational Education would be given sums of money to pay for the cost of related or other necessary instruction for young people employed on work projects of the National Youth Administration. This bulletin provides a historical account of this educational program, placing the major emphases upon the last year of operation during which time funds were available for an administrative staff giving full time to the development of the program within the U.S. Office of Education. The first part describes the program history, including: (1) Authorization; (2) Purposes of the program; (3) General scope; (4) Relation to the war effort; (5) Enrollment and types of courses; (6) Cost of instruction; and (7) Program operation. The second part highlights these outstanding training centers: (1) Denver Opportunity School; (2) Weiser Resident Project; (3) Quoddy Resident Center; (4) Montana Training Center for Indian Girls; (5) Arkansas Homemaking Project for Girls; (6) New York Guidance Service; (7) School of Radio Communication, New York City; (8) Hospital Nurses' Aides--New York; and (9) Hospital Attendants--Hawaii.
