AbstractThe activities contained in this document have been presented at several conference sessions. Participants engaged in hands-on activities for Grades 3 through 8 that utilized a deck of playing cards to meet mathematics content and process standards. Activities included variations of card games, but with a mathematical twist, and other card-based tasks. Games and activities include the following: Integer War, Fraction War, Salute, 24 with Playing Cards, Set with Playing Cards, Area, Quiz Time, and Attribute Eights. Objectives for conference sessions included the following: (a) to use a deck of playing cards to illustrate concepts in mathematics, (b) to correlate activities to both content and process standards, (c) to discuss the place of this activity in the classroom and in preservice education, and (d) to provide participants with a set of low-cost activities which have been prepared for classroom implementation.
