Abstract | This working paper introduces an assessment rubric for a Structured Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP[R]) lesson plan. The paper begins with a brief review of the context of the assessment rubric, including the background of SIOP, the need for authentic assessments for language minority students, and the usefulness of rubrics to measure students' increasing performance autonomy during scaffolded, sheltered instruction. The paper describes the functional integration of the assessment rubric into the fabric of the SIOP lesson it supports and presents a visual example of the rubric. The paper concludes with a summary and recommendations for use of the assessment rubric. (Contains 1 table and 1 footnote.) (As Provided). |
