Abstract | This report is California's response to the four questions that the United States Department of Education (USDE), Division of Adult Education and Literacy, requires of all states and territories receiving federal funding from the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA), Title II of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). The questions addressed concern: (1) successful state leadership projects and activities supported with State Leadership Funds; (2) significant findings from its evaluation of the effectiveness of the adult education and literacy activities based on the core indicators of performance; (3) ways in which it has supported collaborative activities with local Workforce Investment Boards and One-Stops; and (4) successful activities and services supported with English Literacy and Civics Education grants. In 2007-08, California met or exceeded 4 of its 11 NRS Literacy Skill Level goals and three of the four student follow up performance goals. Supported by a comprehensive infrastructure for capacity building, adult education providers continued to improve their ability to collect complete and accurate data in full alignment with NRS reporting requirements and data quality standards.
