Abstract	The nineteen-member Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Advisory Committee was established in 2006 to consult with the United States Department of Education. U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings charged the Committee with providing this report in response to questions regarding the Department's Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities State Grants Program, the Unsafe School Choice Option and the data requirements of NCLB. The Committee's report addresses the State Grants Program, the unsafe school choice option that includes identifying "persistently dangerous schools," and data collection and reporting on school violence and drug incidents. Additionally, the Secretary tasked the Committee to examine the coordination of safe and drug-free resources between public and nonpublic schools, the effects of trauma on students as a result of school violence and the varying and unique challenges that rural and urban schools face. The report concludes by noting the continued necessity of school safety and alcohol and drug use prevention efforts to enhanced achievement and performance by America's students and expressing the Committee's hope that the report will contribute to that crucial goal. The Committee report contains consensus findings and recommendations related to each area of concern identified for the Committee by the Secretary.
