Abstract"Building a Culture of Peace for a Civil Society" consists of papers from scholars from around the world including: Canada, India, Japan, Nigeria, Philippines, Thailand, Turkey and the United States. This volume includes selected papers and lectures delivered at the 12th World Conference on Education of the World Council of Curriculum & Instruction (WCCI) held in Manila, Philippines from August 6-12, 2006. The nineteen papers and presentation outlines describe research and projects from 8 countries, range from preschool through university education and cover 10 topical areas. The topics include: ethics, morals and values in education as an essential strategy to create citizens who embrace a culture of peace; ecology and the environment and its relationship to social justice; language and its relationship to peace and social justice; adult education and its relationship to human rights; an emphasis on assets vs. problem areas in community development work and "Recycling War Trash for Peace." Throughout the volume authors emphasize the importance of balancing academic content with social and spiritual content in our educational endeavors. May you as the reader be encouraged to find your professional and personal balance.
