Abstract	This second edition of "Learning in the Early Years 3-7" has been written to help early years practitioners understand and implement the U.K.'s new curriculum guidance document "The Foundation Stage". The author explains how to meet the requirements of the new Foundation Stage document and how these relate to the U.K.'s National Curriculum and the teaching frameworks of the National Primary Strategy for literacy and mathematics. Offering guidance on planning learning and teaching opportunities across the curriculum, this book is designed to promote the social, intellectual, aesthetic, spiritual and physical development of young children. Topics covered include: (1) Appropriate and lively ways of working with young children; (2) Contemporary approaches to subject teaching; (3) Supporting children for whom English is an additional language; (4) Role of adults; (5) Place of information and communications technology; and (6) Transition between the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. The book also draws on recent research on child development, on how babies think and on learning and teaching for children aged 3-7. The book is targeted to early years students and practitioners to support their everyday effective practice.
