Abstract | This publication aims to briefly describe the important features and general characteristics of education in the United States. It is important to note that, due to the highly decentralized nature of U.S. education, policies and practices can vary considerably from state to state and from school district to school district. This publication cites national averages and general patterns of education practice. After a section detailing the importance and function of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, it is divided into two parts: (1) Organization and Structure of Education; and (2) Education Policy and Administration. Also included is a list of additional resources. (Contains 57 notes, 6 figures, and 2 tables.) (ERIC). |
