Abstract | This report presents the results of a survey of nearly all (98.5%) of the California institutions of higher education that train adults to teach children under the age of five, including associate, bachelor's, master's and PhD programs. Data is presented on program, student, and faculty characteristics as well as language supports for students and challenges. Findings suggest the urgency of revising and updating the curricula of California's early education teacher preparation programs, in line with changing and emerging needs in the field. Appended are: (1) Methods; and (2) California Colleges and Universities Offering Early Childhood Teacher Preparation Programs, by Type of Award. (Contains 20 tables and 6 figures.)
