AbstractThe primary objective of the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) "High Schools That Work" ("HSTW") is to help schools improve so more students can reach their full potential. The "HSTW" Follow-up Study of 2004 Graduates is one measure that gauges how well schools have prepared their students for college and careers. Students' reflections on their high school education can help high school leaders address areas needing improvement and develop actions for further improvement. This report provides a snapshot of what these high school graduates have accomplished during the 12 months after high school, and seeks to answer the following questions for district and school leaders: (1) What actions can schools take to better prepare future graduates? (2) What have graduates been doing since high school? (3) How well were graduates prepared for college, careers or both? and (4) What do graduates say their high schools should have done differently? This report presents actions for states to take to strengthen the preparation of their career/technical teachers and also addresses key questions with respect to recruitment, preparation, induction and support of career/technical teachers. (Contains 16 tables and 9 endnotes.) [This report was also sponsored by the "High Schools That Work" ("HSTW") State Vocational Educational Consortium.] (ERIC).
