Abstract | This publication, one in a series, is intended to bridge the information gap between what the research says and what actually transpires when various programs and reform initiatives are implemented in schools. This particular publication presents 30 questions to 5 participants of the Distinguished Principal Fellows program. The questions are framed around the larger questions: "What do principals need to know about instruction and learning, and what must they be able to do to transform their schools into high-performing learning communities?" Following are some of the specific questions asked of the principals: "How did you communicate the urgency for change and that school reform would be an ongoing and long-term effort?""What support is required at the district level to facilitate reform at the school level?""How do you implement school reform at the secondary level when most models are elementary based?""How do you distribute leadership in the change process?""How do you address the incongruence between state mandates, state and national standards, and some comprehensive school reform model requirements?""What role must teachers play in whole school reform?"
