AbstractIn 2000 the World Education Forum, sponsored by UNESCO, met to assess and act on educational opportunities for children, youth, and adults around the world. The forum agreed on six goals for education considered to be essential, attainable, and affordable, given strong international commitment and resolve, and on a program called Education for All (EFA). This bound and illustrated report is a summary of the progress on the program 2 years after the forum. The data for the report come from UNESCO Institute for Statistics for the school year starting 1999 and from a wide range of other sources. Chapter 1 of the report reaffirms the importance of EFA. Chapter 2 updates current understanding of progress toward and prospects for achieving EFA goals. Chapter 3 examines the international response to the call for EFA action plans. Chapter 4 assesses the cost of achieving the EFA goals and the availability of the resources to secure them. Chapter 5 explores whether the international commitments made in 2000 and subsequently are being met and, if so, how. Chapter 6 discusses future opportunities and prospects of the goals and general goal of education for all. (WFA)
