AbstractThe No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) is President George W. Bush's education reform law passed by Republicans and Democrats in Congress. This guide for parents summarizes the main provisions of the law, answers common questions, and provides information on where to find additional resources. The first part of the guide provides an introduction and overview of the NCLB, what it means for parents and children, why the goals of the Act are important to America, and how the Act helps all stakeholders--parents, teachers, school and state administrators, governors, and community leaders. The remaining part of the guide answers common questions about NCLB as it affects accountability, testing, reading, teaching methods proven to work, teacher quality, school safety, school choice and supplemental educational services, and charter schools. The guide's four appendices list additional resources, titles of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 as reauthorized by the NCLB Act, key sections of Title I--Improving the Academic Achievement of Disadvantaged, Pertaining to Parent Involvement, and 6 references.
