Abstract | The Nairobi, Kenya, seminar sought to analyze existing official school curricula from the vantage point of their potential contribution to learning and to address the issue of curriculum management with a view to improving the capacity of basic schooling to contribute to enhanced social cohesion. This final report is divided into four parts. Part 1 contains "Final Report" (John Aglo and Mankolo Lethoko). Part 2 includes: "Curriculum Development for Living Together in Africa" (Mankolo Lethoko); and "Developpement du Curriculum pour Vivre Ensemble en Afrique" [written in French] (John Aglo). Part 3, "Selected Issues in a Regional Perspective," includes: "Education and Violence: Education in Emergency Situations--The Issue of Social Cohesion" (Audrey Osler); "Curriculum and Languages: Teaching in African Languages and Learning Strategies" (Jens Naumann); and "Post-Conflict Situations Some Useful Perspectives from Africa" (Mudiappasa Devadoss). Part 4, "National Reports," contains: "Burundi" [written in French]; "Comores" [written in French]; "Republique Democratique du Congo" [written in French]; "Eritrea" (Tefsamicael Gerahtu); "Ethiopia" (Dereje Terefe Gemechu); "Kenya" (J. Kiptoon); "Mauritius" (Hirinand Dansingani); "Nigeria" (Ebele Maduwesi); "Rwanda" [written in French]; "Seychelles" (Marie-Therese Purvis); and "Somalia" (Mohamed Abdulkadir).
