Abstract | This annual report details the activities of the Foundation for Child Development (FCD) for 2001-2002. Beginning the report is a brief description of the Foundations mission, its funding priorities, and application procedures. The report then presents the joint statement of the chair, Karen Gerard, and the president, Ruby Takanishi, focusing on FCDs firm commitment to policy-relevant research on low-income working families and their needs. The statement also notes that FCD will broaden its focus on universal prekindergarten to redesign how 3- to 8-year-olds in the United States are educated, and stimulate research and policy development related to immigrant children. The remainder of the annual report delineates the Foundation's response, research, policy, communications, and discretionary grants awarded in 2001-2002 in light of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The report concludes with a list of the Foundation's members of the board of directors and of various committees, and a list of council and staff members. (KB) |
