Abstract	This book was written for results-oriented administrators who daily face the pressures of accountability. The introduction sets forth the differences between leadership and instructional leadership, and defines the critical attributes of effective instructional leadership. The following seven chapters describe each of the seven steps to effective instructional leadership in detail: (1) "Step One: Establish, Implement, and Achieve Academic Standards"; (2) "Step Two: Be an Instructional Resource for Your Staff"; (3) "Step Three: Create a School Culture and Climate Conducive to Learning"; (4) "Step Four: Communicate the Vision and Mission of Your School"; (5) "Step Five: Set High Expectations for Your Staff and Yourself"; (6) "Step Six: Develop Teacher Leaders"; and (7) "Step Seven: Establish and Maintain Positive Relationships with Students, Staff, and Parents." Appendix A contains an instructional leadership checklist for assessing one's current level of instructional leadership, finding out how one's staff thinks one is doing, setting goals for improving instructional leadership practice, and evaluating progress toward those goals.
