Abstract | This paper describes the ASK-IT/Assessing-to-Learn (A2L) project which is an attempt to bring a strategic approach to learning, instruction, and communication. ASK-IT/A2L seeks to integrate formative assessment and instruction in the physics classroom at both the high school and college levels. The project and the approach are the result of years of experience teaching with and without instructional technology as well as years of experience in cognitive research. The goals are to facilitate the use of formative assessment in the classroom, show how technology can make the classroom more interactive, help teachers assess students' cognitive development, and study the role of technology in the classroom. The paper is divided into five sections on new attitudes for students, new roles for students, new roles for teachers, developing new items, and metacognition. (MM) |
