AbstractThis report reviews the educational experiences of students of color in Minnesota schools, colleges, and universities, highlighting students and communities of color; students of color K-12 enrollments; students of color K-12 achievement; students of color college success; early college awareness; and redefining success for students of color. The report notes that because of increases in K-12 enrollments among students of color, Minnesota's future workforce will rely on their academic achievement and college graduation. Rapid increases in the number of students of color in Minnesota schools and colleges is a statewide phenomenon. Because of high school dropout rates and low college participation, college persistence, and college graduation rates, Minnesota education institutions and communities are preparing only a fraction of all potential students of color for the workforce. Students of color are not meeting standards in mathematics, reading, and writing at the same rates as white students, and they are taking the ACT exam at rates below white students. The report suggests that Minnesota reexamine its vision for educating students of all backgrounds. Profiles of successful minority students are included. (SM)
