AbstractFamily Feathers is a set of 18 videotapes for parents of preschool children, created by the Alaska Native Home Base Video Project of the Tlingit and Haida Head Start Program. This series offers culturally relevant solutions to the challenges of parenting, drawing on practical advice from Tlingit and Haida parents, wisdom from elders, and some of the best current research on how preschool children grow and develop. The videos are designed to be used in facilitated group settings or during home visits by an early childhood specialist. A workbook of activities extends the ideas and issues brought up in each video. The 18 videotapes are: Creative Development; Culture and Heritage; Family; Fostering Leadership; Guidance and Discipline; Home & Community Safety; Juggling It All; Literacy; Math, Science and Language Development; Multigenerational Grief; Nutrition; Physical & Dental Health; Preschool and Early Childhood Education; Social Development; Special Needs; Stressful Times; The Natural Classroom; and Using Well What Is at Hand. Running times range from 22 to 32 minutes each. The videos are close-captioned for the hearing impaired. (SV)
