Abstract | This book is one in a series of four volumes presenting a functional curriculum for students with disabilities, and addresses the three areas of interpersonal competence, competitive job-finding, and leisure-time skills. The curriculum, although meant primarily for teachers functioning within a special setting, can also assist collaborative teams of professionals working to meet the needs of individual students in a variety of settings. Introductory material includes a list of 17 general goals of these curriculum areas and a discussion of the functional approach to curriculum and instructional design. Each of the three units includes a statement of the general goals of the unit, sample lesson plans, suggested readings, and a list of selected materials and resources. Suggested activities and family or teacher interventions are presented for each specific learning objective and are broken down by age level including infant and toddler/preschool level, primary level, intermediate level, and secondary level. A list of selected materials and resources is provided for each unit. (Individual chapters contain references.) (DB) |
