Abstract | This teacher's guide presents teaching suggestions and presentation materials about women's rights around the world in terms of equal access to education, health care, employment, land, credit, technology, and political power. Implications of these inequities are explored through the concept of sustainable development. The lesson is divided into seven parts and suggests allowing four or more class periods for completion. Student handouts include: (1) "Beyond the Veil: The Women of the Village of Khajuron"; (2) "Afi: A Woman of Ghana"; (3) "Women Sow Seeds of Change"; (4) "Women's Education Campaign Protects Resources and Health in Sri Lanka"; (5) "Activist Wages One-Women Fight Against Hazardous Waste"; (6) "Women and the Environment: A Different Point of View"; and (7)"Investing More in Women: An Agenda for the 1990s." Transparency masters are titled: (1) "Percent of Females Enrolled in Secondary School"; (2) "Female and Male Adult Literacy Rates, 1990"; (3) "Female Literacy and Population Growth in Selected Countries"; (4) "Maternal Mortality Rate in Selected Countries, 1980-1990"; (5) "Sex Differences in Infant Mortality in Selected Countries, 1994"; (6) "Total Labor Force by Gender, 1990"; (7) "Women's and Men's Working Time, Including Household Labor, 1976-88"; (8) "Gender Labor Division in Africa, Early 1980s"; (9) "Women's Average Wages as a Percentage of Men's, 1983-87"; and (10) "Parliamentary Seats Held by Men and Women in Selected Countries, 1987."
