Abstract | This booklet provides schools with ideas on how they can use their after-school programs in new and effective ways to promote student achievement and meet the needs of their students and community. It provides suggestions on: reading in after-school programs; mathematics in after-school programs; think college early in after-school programs; teacher recruitment and training in after-school programs; technology in after-school programs; the arts and after-school programs; strong, safe, disciplined, and drug-free schools and after-school programs; and parent involvement in after-school programs. Each section presents information on background, how to integrate efforts into after-school programs, U.S. Department of Education resources, a sample program, and contact and other sources of information.
