AbstractThis briefing book and final report are products of Project 2030, a two-year Minnesota initiative to identify the impacts of the baby boom generation that begins turning 85 in 2030 and to prepare a state response to the changes that will accompany the aging of Minnesota's population. The briefing book, an introductory publication to Project 2030, presents basic statewide demographic facts and figures about the changes that will occur in the older population in Minnesota over the next 30 years, describes characteristics of Minnesota's future elderly, and provides supporting data and research. The final report incorporates material from community forums, surveys, roundtables, and staff research and analysis. The final report first discusses demographic realities faced between now and 2030. Most of the report focuses on identifying and discussing these four major themes for the state's preparation for 2030: helping boomers prepare for retirement, health and long term care, changing communities, and work force vitality. The discussion of each theme includes the importance of the theme, aging implications for existing and future trends, vision for 2030, policy directions, and 2030 milestones. The report also addresses the readiness of the state and the effects on other sectors. Its appendixes conclude an annotated bibliography of 15 Project 2030 publications and 25 references. (YLB)
