Abstract | Data from the 50 United States are listed for 1997 from Kids Count in an effort to track state-by-state the status of children in the United States and to secure better futures for all children. Data include percent low birth weight babies; infant mortality rate; child death rate; rate of teen deaths by accident, homicide, and suicide; teen birth rate; percent of teen high school dropouts; percent of teens not attending school and not working; percent of children living with parents who do not have full-time year-round employment; percent of children in poverty; percent of families with children headed by a single parent; and percent of children who live in a household without a phone or computer or Internet access.
