Abstract | This guide, written in Spanish, describes federal student aid programs for postsecondary education and how to apply for them. It begins by outlining sources for learning about student aid, such as school financial aid administrators, state higher education agencies, foundations, organizations related to particular fields of interest and toll-free phone numbers for additional information. The guide also presents general information about federal student aid, standards for student eligibility, dependency status, the application process, special circumstances, and deadlines. It then provides detailed descriptions of the Federal Pell Grant Program, Federal Stafford Loans, Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS), Federal Work Study, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) direct and consolidation loans, and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants. The guide concludes with a discussion of borrower responsibilities and rights, procedures for loan deferment, discharge/cancellation, a glossary of important terms, and phone numbers of state agencies.
