| Abstract | Using a wide array of government data, this report examines the impact of the 1990s economy and other developments on the living standards of Arkansas's working families and their children. Information is provided on: (1) unemployment rates by geographic region, educational level, and race; (2) employment and average weekly earnings by industry group; (3) income trends; (4) poverty and child poverty rates; (5) income gap between rich and poor; (6) the impact of welfare reform; (7) child care, health care, and housing needs; (8) tax burden; and (9) Arkansas usage of the federal earned income tax credit. The report concludes with a discussion of issues facing working Arkansas, including economic development, workforce development, assets and savings, tax policy, health care, quality child care and early childhood education, food and nutrition, welfare to work, housing, and unemployment insurance.
