AbstractThis publication contains the story of how the idea for a network conceived through CONFINTEA V became a [virtual] reality in ALADIN, the Adult Learning Documentation and Information Network. Part I contains 15 papers delivered as a part of the CONFINTEA workshop, "Global Community of Adult Learning through Information and Documentation: Developing a Network of Networks." The papers are "The Right To Know--The Global Community of Adult Education through Information and Documentation" (Terrance Keenan); "The World Bank's View on Sharing Information" (John Oxenham); "Adult Education Information and Documentation: A 'Third World' Literacy Research Perspective" (Agneta Lind); "Global Community of Adult Education through Information and Documentation" (Justin Ellis); "Experiences of the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association. Focus: Hungary" (Heribert Hinzen); "Serving the Global Community of Adult Education: Experiences of the J. Part II relates how, under the leadership of the UNESCO Institute for Education, the network has become a reality. It contains information about development and publication/implementation of the following items: "Developing a Network of Adult Learning Documentation and Information Services," an analytical and annotated directory; (2) a fellowship program in which participants developed draft regional action plans; (3) three-day expert seminar, ALADIN; (4) the ALADIN Web site; and (5) an e-mail seminar of ALADIN task force members.
