| Abstract | Activities on behalf of Roma/Gypsies have always been an important part of the Council of Europe's minority protection policy. The topics discussed are how more training opportunities can be provided for young Roma people and other ways to support and promote their participation in society. This report on the long-term training course that the Council of Europe Youth Directorate organized for Roma/Gypsy youth leaders is mainly intended for those interested in playing an active role in training young Roma/Gypsy people responsible for international projects within their local communities, as part of a regional, national, or Europe-wide effort. After describing the background to the course, the report highlights a number of related themes such as the European dimension and intercultural implications. Lastly, it examines the future of Roma/Gypsy youth work. Comments by course participants also are included in the report. (Sections contain footnotes.) (BT) |
