Abstract	Disorganized attachment relationships were first formally identified on the basis of the anomalous behavior of some infants during laboratory separations and reunions with the parent. This book presents new research and theory on the topic of attachment disorganization, an area of investigation that is of increasing importance in the study of attachment, caregiving, and developmental and psychological risk throughout the lifespan. Chapters in Part 1, "The Etiology of Attachment Disorganization," are: (1) "The Place of Disorganization in Attachment Theory: Linking Classic Observations with Contemporary Findings" (Judith Solomon and Carol George); (2) "A Relational Diathesis Model of Hostile-Helpless States of Mind: Expressions in Mother-Infant Interaction" (Karlen Lyons-Ruth, Elisa Bronfman, and Gwendolyn Atwood); (3) "Unresolved Loss and Infant Disorganization: Links to Frightening Maternal Behavior" (Carlo Schuengel, Marian Bakermans-Kranenburg, Marinus van Ijzendoorn, and Marjolijn Blom); and (4) "Individual and Physiological Correlates of Attachment Disorganization in Infancy" (Gottfried Spangler and Karin Grossmann). Part 2, "Social and Cognitive Sequelae of Attachment Disorganization," contains the following chapters: (5) "Developmental Pathways from Infant Disorganization to Childhood Peer Relationships" (Deborah Jacobvitz and Nancy Hazen); and (6) "Disorganized Attachment and Developmental Risk at School Age" (Ellen Moss, Diane St-Laurent, and Sophie Parent). Part 4, "Adult and Clinical Applications," contains the following chapters: (11) "Disorganization of Attachment as a Model for Understanding Dissociative Psychopathology" (Giovanni Liotti); (12) "The Adult Attachment Projective: Disorganization of Adult Attachment at the Level of Representation" (Carol George, Malcolm West, and Odette Pettem); (13) "Attachment Quality in Young Children of Mentally Ill Mothers: Contribution of Maternal Caregiving Abilities and Foster Care Context" (Teresa Jacobsen and Laura Miller); and (14) "Resolving the Past and Present: Relations with Attachment Organization" (Robert Pianta, Robert Marvin, and Maria Morog).
