Abstract | Fifty sessions with nearly 70 presenters or discussion leaders examined all aspects of comprehensive systems for accountability and educational improvement at the 1998 national conference of the Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST). Topics ranged from national assessment to innovative uses of technology, from deeper understanding of students traditionally left out of assessment to benefits from partnerships between researchers and practitioners. The gathering began with a national overview of work on assessment and school improvement, moved to specific issues, and devoted time to new and continuing research. This publication summarizes conference discussions, remarking on progress made and noting work remaining to be done. The last panel, titled "Reinventing Assessment and Accountability To Help All Children Learn," invoked the theme of the entire conference. (SLD) |
