Abstract | This report presents the methods and preliminary findings of the Videotape Classroom Study, a video study of eighth-grade mathematics lessons in Germany, Japan, and the United States. This exploratory research project is part of the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). The study included 231 eighth-grade mathematics classrooms and three samples were selected. Findings reveal a number of differences in instructional practices across the three cultures. This report provides a detailed account of the methods used in the study as well as a preliminary look at the findings up to this point. Contains 21 references. (ASK) |
