Abstract | The annotated bibliography lists albums, picture books, stories, novels, informational books, songs, and readings appropriate for children in grades K-3 in French immersion programs. An introductory section gives an overview of the bibliography and its use. The bibliography itself is divided into two sections, one citing literature of importance in addressing children's imaginative needs, and one citing works addressing children's information needs. Each citation gives, in addition to basic bibliographic information, data on the work's format, theme, difficulty level, special features, the role of illustrations, and idiomatic expressions used, a summary of the story or subject content, and a chart indicating the work's relevance to immersion program objectives. Appended materials include suggested thematic approaches for teaching beginning reading, notes on creation of a classroom atmosphere conducive to reading and of a reading center, a reading program evaluation chart, a chart of links between reading objectives and general program objectives, a reference list, and indexes.
