Abstract | This book presents principles for curriculum development in vocational and technical education (VTE). Section I focuses on curriculum development in a more general context. Chapter 1 conceptualizes curriculum as related to VTE. Chapter 2 provides contemporary designs for curriculum development. Section II deals with essentials of curriculum planning. Chapter 3, a foundation for this planning, emphasizes the importance of systematic decision making in curriculum planning. The next two chapters describe how information may be collected and assessed as part of this decision-making process. Chapter 4 enumerates the ways that school-related data may be gathered. Chapter 5 deals with community-related data in a similar manner. Section III deals with establishing curriculum content. Chapter 6 describes strategies a curriculum developer may use when content is being established. Chapter 7 presents the process of actually deciding what content to include. Chapter 8 details formulation of specific curriculum goals and objectives. Section IV describes the curriculum implementation process. Chapter 9 deals with the identification and selection of relevant curriculum materials. Chapter 10 is a guide for developing materials. Chapter 11 describes ways that curricula can be developed that emphasize school-to-work transition. Chapter 12 deals with systematic assessment of the VTE curriculum. Appendixes include curriculum materials and educational software assessment forms and index. (YLB) |
