AbstractIntended for adults who are considering career choices or changes, this booklet provides opportunities for self-study and reflection in six career paths. The booklet begins with tips for long-term career survival and myths and realities of career planning. After a brief career survey, readers are introduced to six career paths: arts and communications; business, management, and technology; health services; human services; industrial engineering and technology; and natural resources/agriculture. Next, the interests, abilities, and talents shared by people in each career path are provided along with possible occupations each career path has to offer. Jobs requiring different levels of education and training are listed for each career path. The remaining 60% of the booklet presents and explains a career path road map consisting of seven steps: become aware of the need to make a career move or begin a new career; engage in self-study; explore the world of work; generate choices by gathering information; make a career choice; plan and act on the choice; and evaluate the choice. Self-study materials provided include: a list of 20 questions to ask before changing careers, and self-assessment forms for identifying personal abilities, talents, and functional/transferable, content, and self-management skills.
