Abstract | This paper presents personal reflections on some aspects of the research project BRIDGE. The goal of this project is the development of mathematics teaching innovations in which students and teachers engage in mathematically rich situations through the creation of learning modules that capitalize on students' and their families' knowledge and experiences in their everyday lives. The four components of the model are described, but emphasis is placed on one part of the model--Study Groups--as the setting for discussing bridging in-school and out-of-school knowledge.
