Abstract | This manual is a comprehensive guide to identifiers of gang activities and memberships. The "People" and "Folks" concepts it uses represent the two main divisions of street gang affiliation. Gangs that belong to the "People" nation use the left side as an identifier, use a five-pointed star as an emblem, and claim affiliation with the "Latin King" or "Vice Lord" street gangs. Gangs in the "Folks" nation associate with the right side, use a six-pointed star, and claim affiliation with the "Disciples" street gang. The small number of gangs that claim no allegiance to either nation are usually loose knit organizations. The 7 sections of this guide contain over 700 photographs of gang symbols and gestures. The following sections are included: (1) "Gang List by Affiliation"; (2)"Terminology"; (3) "Handsigns/Manual Alphabet"; (4) "Basic Identifiers"; (5) "Graffiti"; (6) "Cross Reference Symbol Chart"; and (7) "Alphabetical Gang Listing."
