AbstractThe National Household Education Survey (NHES) is a data collection system of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) designed to address a wide range of education-related issues. It is a telephone survey of the noninstitutionalized civilian population. In 1993, the NHES was designed to cover two topical components: School Readiness and School Safety and Discipline. The School Readiness component included all children between the ages of 3 and 7 years of age and all other children currently enrolled in nursery school, kindergarten, first, or second grade. For the School Safety and Discipline component, interviews were conducted with both parents and student. Approximately 64,000 households were screened to identify eligible respondents. For the School Readiness component, 10,888 parent interviews were conducted, and for the School Safety and Discipline component, 12,680 parent and 6,504 student interviews were conducted. This document contains the interviewer texts of: (1) the NHES:93 screener interview; (2) the NHES:93 School Readiness Interview; and (3) the NHES:93 School Safety and Discipline Interview. (Contains one table and two exhibits.) (SLD)
