Abstract | This KIDS COUNT report documents the status of children in all 115 Missouri counties. Following an executive summary that reports areas of improvement, stabilization, and deterioration, and profiles for the state as a whole and for Caucasians versus minorities, summary information is provided for the following indicators: (1) students enrolled in free/reduced price lunch program; (2) births to mothers without high school diplomas; (3) low birth weight infants; (4) infant mortality; (5) child deaths; (6) probable cause child abuse; (7) out-of-home placement entries; (8) annual high school dropouts; (9) births to teens; and (10) teen violent deaths. Brief sections, "Missouri's Teens at Risk" and "Using KIDS COUNT to Change the Public Will," are then presented. The bulk of the report presents county-by-county profiles detailing the above-listed indicators, as well as data on demography, economic status, family supports, and health/mental health. Appendices contain raw data for indicators; data notes, sources, and references; county rankings; and sample legislative correspondence. (EV) |
