Abstract | The Special Intensive Program for Scientists and Engineers (SIPSE) at Diablo Valley College in California replaces the traditional engineering calculus and physics sequences with a single sequence that combines the two subjects into an integrated whole. The project report provides an overview of SIPSE, a section that traces the project from problem definition to project conclusion, details on the background and origins of the project, a full description of the project, and an evaluation and project results. Appendices contain detailed course descriptions and time lines for all SIPSE courses, lists of labs and joint presentations, and a discussion of the notational, terminological, and stylistic differences between mathematics and physics.
