Abstract	This handbook serves as a guide for state, district, and school leaders to organize and implement positive and permanent programs of school, family, and community partnerships. The book's eight chapters offer step-by-step strategies to improve school-family-community connections. Chapter 1 summarizes the theory and research on which the handbook is based, describes the framework of six types of involvement, and discusses the "Action Team" approach for developing a comprehensive program of partnerships. Chapter 2 illustrates how the components of the program are applied at the district and school levels. Chapter 3 outlines agendas for short and extended training workshops and year-end celebrations that leaders may conduct to help action teams write plans, share practices, solve problems, and continue program development. Chapter 4 supplies charts and diagrams that can be used as transparencies or handouts in presentations and workshops. Chapter 5 includes an inventory of present practices, 3-year outlines, 1-year action plans, and evaluation forms to establish and continue the program. Chapter 6 contains discussion topics, worksheets, and other forms that support and advance the work of action teams, district facilitators, and state coordinators. Chapter 7 presents additional information for middle and high schools, introduces interactive homework, and summarizes survey instruments. Chapter 8 shows how to join other schools, districts and states in the National Network of Partnership-2000 Schools at Johns Hopkins University to obtain information and assistance, and share ideas and progress.
