| Abstract | This Kids Count report investigates statewide trends in the well-being of Delaware's children. The statistical report is based on 10 indicators of child well being: (1) births to teens; (2) low birth weight babies; (3) infant mortality; (4) child deaths, children 1-14 years; (5) teen violent deaths; (6) juvenile violent crime arrests; (7) high school dropouts; (8) teens not in the labor force and not in school; (9) children in poverty; and (10) children in one-parent households. This report focuses on births to teens as a contributing factor to, and an outcome of, many of the other indicators. Data on teen birth rate are reported for each Delaware county, statewide, and state census tract, and nationwide. Data on indicators are reported for 1993, and for 3-, 5-, and 10-year averages. Findings indicate that Delaware ranks better than the U.S. 5-year average on child deaths, teen violent deaths, high school dropouts, idle teens, and children in poverty; and worse than the national average on the other indicators.
