Abstract	This publication reports on an evaluation commissioned by the Greater Glasgow (Scotland) Health Board of a school sexual health education program. The program emphasized providing accurate and relevant sexual health information; promoting pupils' ownership of their own sexual health issues; developing pupils' informed decision-making abilities concerning sexual activity; and encouraging peer support within classes. The findings of the 1993 evaluation revealed that while the model had taken time and resources, this approach had led to a curriculum that met the sexual health needs of the majority of pupils in the target school, developed and enhanced teachers' skills, and promoted teachers' confidence in providing sexual health education. Overall themes emerging from the evaluations are summarized in five broad categories: (1) pupils' satisfaction with the program; (2) communication issues between teachers and pupils; (3) factors affecting learning and pupil involvement; (4) the role of external providers of sexual health education; and (5) the challenge for collaborative sexual health programs. Summaries of the three phases of the sexual health program and corresponding evaluation and findings are included in the appendices. Contains nine references. (ND)
