Abstract | This factbook provides data on the well-being of South Dakota children. It is intended as a vehicle for policy makers, advocates, the media, and service providers to raise awareness on the status of children in South Dakota. Section 1 of the factbook is an introduction and overview on South Dakota demographics. Section 2 presents special reports on: (1) youth risk behavior; (2) the impact of social services on South Dakota children; (3) child abuse and neglect; (4) youth-related traffic statistics; (5) funding sources; (6) native American demographics; and (7) immunization. Section 3, which comprises the bulk of the book, consists of a state data table and data tables for each of the state's counties. The tables present vital statistics, family profiles, miscellaneous information, and data or statistics on population, school drop-out rates, school enrollment, child safety, and participation in the Aid to Families with Dependent Children and foodstamp programs. The section concludes with a table of indicators, such as infant mortality rate and school dropout rate, by county. Section 4 lists sources for information in the factbook and definitions of terms used in the report. (BC) |
